About Me

My photo
Paramus, New Jersey, United States
No, this in not a blog about gardening in any way, but a journal of my journey to become a professional landscape painting artist. For years, I’ve given my paintings as wedding gifts without thinking of profiting in some way from it. I worked for 18 years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC as a computer programmer. I have been a painter since 1990, coincidentally, when I started working at the Met. I watched Bob Ross do his thing on Channel 13 in New York and decided I could do this, too. I have no formal training. I incorporate Bob's wet-on-wet technique for sky and water. My subject matter is covered bridges, lighthouses, fishing village scenes, barns, etc. Maine, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Nova Scotia and Spain are some of the places I have painted. My style is detailed and sometimes people think a photo of the painting is an actual photo of the scene. I hope to continue and grow in this medium. I also like to cook & dance. I am also a committed Christian. I am taking commissions - painting your landscapes style photos or your vacation home. Prices on request. contact me - Jackmck@juno.com my website is www.artofjackmckenzie.com

new painting: COTW - Campcam Winter

COTW stands for Camp-of-the-Woods, a Christian family camp in the Adirondack region of New York. My family has been going there since my mother was a child. We spent many a Summer there and I have joined in many Memorial Day and Columbus Day Weekend work weekends. It is a favorite painting subject and all those paintings hare hanging in the main lodge.

They have a webcam called the Campcam that is situated on one end of the lake's beach and pointing to the opposite end, except when it's time for sunset and it points to the sunset. I have done a sunset picture painting. It's a 24/7 operation and this is a winter scene. The snow fencing along the beach to prevent snow mobilers on the lake coming up onto the camp property. I have helped put up that fence many times. Also there is a snow man.

I have done screen grabs and I combined two of those photos. One is the winter scene which was on the cloudy side and the other a well lit spring scene

As usual I have posted it on pixels and if you would like to buy mugs, masks, bags or other items, please do so.

new painting - Fort Amherst Lighthouse with Iceberg

I like the Maritime Provinces of Canada. I have not personally visited Newfoundland, but have done a number of paintings using pictures posted on Facebook (with permission). I'm becoming fascinated with the iceberg pictures shown passing down "iceberg alley" . This one is in a scene with one of my other favorite subjects - lighthouses. This is a photo from Jim Costello Photography on FB. It was a much wider shot picture, but I wanted a closer view of the lighthouse, so I cropped it. I've combined two pictures I came across of the same scene, one with a fishing boat and one without. The one without was mush lighter. As usual, I've loaded the image of the painting in to Pixels so so you purchase items with this image on it if you wish
