About Me

My photo
Paramus, New Jersey, United States
No, this in not a blog about gardening in any way, but a journal of my journey to become a professional landscape painting artist. For years, I’ve given my paintings as wedding gifts without thinking of profiting in some way from it. I worked for 18 years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC as a computer programmer. I have been a painter since 1990, coincidentally, when I started working at the Met. I watched Bob Ross do his thing on Channel 13 in New York and decided I could do this, too. I have no formal training. I incorporate Bob's wet-on-wet technique for sky and water. My subject matter is covered bridges, lighthouses, fishing village scenes, barns, etc. Maine, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Nova Scotia and Spain are some of the places I have painted. My style is detailed and sometimes people think a photo of the painting is an actual photo of the scene. I hope to continue and grow in this medium. I also like to cook & dance. I am also a committed Christian. I am taking commissions - painting your landscapes style photos or your vacation home. Prices on request. contact me - Jackmck@juno.com my website is www.artofjackmckenzie.com

New painting - Fishing Shed Fogo Island NF

Fishing shed are one of my favorite subjects. One of my image sources is Facebook, with many photographers willing to let you paint their photos. This one is from the Newfoundland a beautiful Province page on Facebook. The photographer is Russel Lynch. The photo is from an island off Newfoundland called Fogo Island in a community called Joe Batt's Arm (check the link for the name history which goes back to Captain Cook). Great sunset shot. As usual I will show my paint progress shots and the refernce photo and  link to my pixels page where you can purchase items based on this image .

new painting - Heceta Head Lighthouse Sunset

Lighthouses and sunsets - Perfect together. As usual, I trolled Facebook for some paintable images and this time it was fro the Oregon Coast FB page and an image by Jerry Johnson. Got his permission to paint it and here it is. I print out the images and sometimes the printer at my local Staples changes the color, this time from pinkish to orange (it's a laser printer with photo settings, not a photo printer). I decided to go with that. As usual, I was obsessing over final details, but decided it look good as it was. I still need to work on my ocean painting.

As usual, here's my link to Pixels.com   in case you are interested in buy a mug or bag.

Also as usual, I post paint progress pictures. I'm always taking pictures to check how the painting looks. Cameras catch things you miss and changes it too. The image also appears darker on social media than it actually is,
