About Me

My photo
Paramus, New Jersey, United States
No, this in not a blog about gardening in any way, but a journal of my journey to become a professional landscape painting artist. For years, I’ve given my paintings as wedding gifts without thinking of profiting in some way from it. I worked for 18 years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC as a computer programmer. I have been a painter since 1990, coincidentally, when I started working at the Met. I watched Bob Ross do his thing on Channel 13 in New York and decided I could do this, too. I have no formal training. I incorporate Bob's wet-on-wet technique for sky and water. My subject matter is covered bridges, lighthouses, fishing village scenes, barns, etc. Maine, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Nova Scotia and Spain are some of the places I have painted. My style is detailed and sometimes people think a photo of the painting is an actual photo of the scene. I hope to continue and grow in this medium. I also like to cook & dance. I am also a committed Christian. I am taking commissions - painting your landscapes style photos or your vacation home. Prices on request. contact me - Jackmck@juno.com my website is www.artofjackmckenzie.com

New Painting: Hanging Out At Ocean Grove.

One of my favorite places on the Jersey Shore is Ocean Grove. It started as a Methodist camping ground and today is a favorite place for many Christians. The used to close the town on Sunday, but that stopped a while ago. The centerpiece is a 100 year old auditorium where church services and various concerts happen

Another major feature is the Fishing Pier, which had a club house at the end, but was almost destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Several sections of pilings are left, up to the main park of it. People use it to hang out on the beach under it. This is my rendition of it.

As usual, you can buy items based on this image from Pixels.com

Below are the painting, the image I used to paint it and some progress shots

Found this picture by Don White on the Oregon Coast FB page. Love the power of the ocean displayed here. As usual, you can purchase items based on this image from the Pixels site

Here's the painting and the picture I used, plus the progress shots. I had problems getting the ocean in front looking right, so I just added waves

New painting - Slaughterhouse Covered Bridge in Winter

I get back to another of my favorite subjects - Covered Bridges. This is a winter - just after a snowfall - scene of the Slaughterhouse Covered Bridge in Vermont. I got the picture form the Vermont for Vermonters page on Facebook. As usual, you can purchase items with this image on them from Pixels

Here is the painting, the original source material, and some progress shots. For some reason the painting appears darker than it is.
