About Me

My photo
Paramus, New Jersey, United States
No, this in not a blog about gardening in any way, but a journal of my journey to become a professional landscape painting artist. For years, I’ve given my paintings as wedding gifts without thinking of profiting in some way from it. I worked for 18 years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC as a computer programmer. I have been a painter since 1990, coincidentally, when I started working at the Met. I watched Bob Ross do his thing on Channel 13 in New York and decided I could do this, too. I have no formal training. I incorporate Bob's wet-on-wet technique for sky and water. My subject matter is covered bridges, lighthouses, fishing village scenes, barns, etc. Maine, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Nova Scotia and Spain are some of the places I have painted. My style is detailed and sometimes people think a photo of the painting is an actual photo of the scene. I hope to continue and grow in this medium. I also like to cook & dance. I am also a committed Christian. I am taking commissions - painting your landscapes style photos or your vacation home. Prices on request. contact me - Jackmck@juno.com my website is www.artofjackmckenzie.com

Art of Jack Mckenzie 2021 Calendar

This is my annual Art of Jack Mckenzie calendar containing the paintings I did in 2020. I did not do enough to fill all 12 months, so I added a couple from previous years. I am continuing to use Zazzle. Hopefully I will get more sales this year, since it's coming out before Thanksgiving. Last year, it was towards the end of the year when people had already made their calendar choices.

There are paintings of lighthouses, covered bridges and fishing harbors from Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Vermont , Block Island, Newfoundland, and upstate New York.

Here are a couple of the paintings contained in the Calendar

Pandemic art - Doctors and nurses

The Covid-19 pandemic has inspired artists in all genres and all subjects all around the world, from the U.S to Columbia to Japan and other places. The subject I am highlighting here is Doctors and Nurses. These people are working hard to save people and are the new superheroes. There are too many for here, so here is a sample. My favorite is one of doctors lassoing a person's spirit trying to get them back into the body and one with the doctor standing between his patients and death tossing a covid virus.

New painting: Quidi Vidi Gut - Newfoundland with progress pictures

I love going to the Martie Provinces of Canada. I've been to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, but I still need to visit New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Facebook has a couple of pages dedicated to these places. This picture is from a post by Sheldon Hicks on the Newfoundland: the beautiful Province page. It's of a fishing village outside of St. John's Newfoundland called Quidi Vidi and it's harbor is called the Gut. Love fishing villages. I am including progress pictures, including the original. The original was portrait shaped with more sky and water, but I chose to edit it this way. I found some other pictures of this scene that have a small waterfall as part of it, so I included that. As usual, if you wish to purchase items with this image on them check out Pixels
