About Me
- Jack McKenzie
- Paramus, New Jersey, United States
- No, this in not a blog about gardening in any way, but a journal of my journey to become a professional landscape painting artist. For years, I’ve given my paintings as wedding gifts without thinking of profiting in some way from it. I worked for 18 years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC as a computer programmer. I have been a painter since 1990, coincidentally, when I started working at the Met. I watched Bob Ross do his thing on Channel 13 in New York and decided I could do this, too. I have no formal training. I incorporate Bob's wet-on-wet technique for sky and water. My subject matter is covered bridges, lighthouses, fishing village scenes, barns, etc. Maine, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Nova Scotia and Spain are some of the places I have painted. My style is detailed and sometimes people think a photo of the painting is an actual photo of the scene. I hope to continue and grow in this medium. I also like to cook & dance. I am also a committed Christian. I am taking commissions - painting your landscapes style photos or your vacation home. Prices on request. contact me - Jackmck@juno.com my website is www.artofjackmckenzie.com

Paramus Library Show - Final Adjustment?
I added business cards to my library show information center. This is been a learning situation. I was hoping to get away from the cards and have those interested take pictures of the info with their phones, but as I've said before, the average library patron is not that advanced, so it will be cards and phone pictures and QR codes. The library is a Verizon dead zone with lousy wi-fi. I will supply the whole information spectrum for all other shows like this.

Paramus Library Show information changes
I've been making a few changes to my Paramus Library Show information presentation. I have added the key word Paramuslibraryshow to my paintings I've on Pixels and then create a QR code with the resulting URL so people can access merchadise for them. I've also added this QR code to the ones for my basic info and same painting entries on Instagram and created an Information Center posted at the beginning of the paintings.
I went to the library to post these and found out a few issues. Seems the are quite a few people who don't have email and prefer a phone number instead.. They are also looking for business cards. So before I left I wrote my phone number on the the my information card and I hope I do not get inundated. I will have to bring a box of business cards. I was trying to have an relatively up-to-date exhibition, but there are a lot of "we like the old ways" people out there. Hope I don't have to use Morse Code for anything. I guess the average library patron is not that current.
I also tried to do a Facebook Live walk thru of the paintings, but I have Verizon and it does not penetrate in to the library and their Wifi is spotty. You will also find below a few of the art memes Ive posted

Paramus Library Show 2022 - pictures, Instagram and QR codes
It's been about 12 years since I last displayed in the Paramus Library. Most libraries like to have art on their walls and artists like to have public places to display. The wait list for space is long, 6 months to a year. Twelve years ago I cycled thru most of the libraries in the Bergen County system, each a month long.I tried to restart this and I was supposed to be in Paramus in Oct 2020 but the pandemic set in and waited to reschedule. July 2021 I got and email from the library about rescheduling and I got March 2022.
Back then you had to have a physical list of paintings and business cards other such things.
Now I have my paintings on FB and Instagram and my blog, and there are various on-line ways to generate merchandise from my paintings and one of the latest forms QR Codes. The square sqiggly codes are the successor to barcodes. They can expand in size, so a
lot more info can pass along. Mostly they are used to link to websites
which is better than trying to key one. I have a printed page with my picture and some information that anyone interested can take a picture of it to look at later. I am using Instagram to give painting details, putting a #paramuslibshow22 on each painting and generating a QR code for that. My paintings can be accessed by logging on to Instagram and enter that hashtag or access thru the QR code, which you do not need an Instagram account to access.
I also created one to contain my basic info. I used Publisher to create a physical info sheet and then generate a QR code with the various websites at the bottom, which people can take a picture with their phone for future reference
I also printed out a number of inspirational and humerous art memes to tape to the paintings
Here a few pictures of what currently is one display. I used up all of by frames for this, so I have other paintings hanging in the house using plastic adhesive tabs. Come and enjoy. I am here until April
