About Me

My photo
Paramus, New Jersey, United States
No, this in not a blog about gardening in any way, but a journal of my journey to become a professional landscape painting artist. For years, I’ve given my paintings as wedding gifts without thinking of profiting in some way from it. I worked for 18 years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC as a computer programmer. I have been a painter since 1990, coincidentally, when I started working at the Met. I watched Bob Ross do his thing on Channel 13 in New York and decided I could do this, too. I have no formal training. I incorporate Bob's wet-on-wet technique for sky and water. My subject matter is covered bridges, lighthouses, fishing village scenes, barns, etc. Maine, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Nova Scotia and Spain are some of the places I have painted. My style is detailed and sometimes people think a photo of the painting is an actual photo of the scene. I hope to continue and grow in this medium. I also like to cook & dance. I am also a committed Christian. I am taking commissions - painting your landscapes style photos or your vacation home. Prices on request. contact me - Jackmck@juno.com my website is www.artofjackmckenzie.com

New painting - Brant Point Lighthouse Sunset

I'm catching up on my new painting posts.

This is another view of one of my favorite subjects - the Brant Point Lighthouse on Nantucket. This one is a sunset. The original picture had a Tall Ship coming in, but I decided to leave it out. Check out Pixels.com  for mugs and bags and other items with this image on it

I take progress picture when I paint

New Painting - Wood's Hole Houseboats

I'm catching up with my posts

Everytime my friends and I take the ferry to Martha's Vineyard for our annual biking weekend from Woods Hole, we pass this collection of floating buildings in Woods Hole harbor. I always thought is was floating fishing sheds, but it is a bunch of houseboats that spend the summer here. Odd looking houseboats, but interesting none the less.

New painting - Cape Forschu Lighthouse Sunset

I have been lax in keeping up with this blog, so I'm posting each individual painting.

One of my favorite light houses is the Cape Forschu Lighthouse in Yarmouth Nova Scotia. Found this rather dramatic picture on it's Facebook page.

Purchase  items from this picture on Pixels.com including face masks.

New Painting - Fishing Harbor Sunrise

I get my painting subjects from picture posted on various media, usually Facebook, Instagram or my own collection. This one I lost track of. It's somewhere on my computer or one of my flash drives.
I'm calling this Fishing Harbor Sunrise - 11x14 oil on canvas board

new painting - Barn Near Saugerties, NY

Ideas for new paintings come from all over. This one came when a friend liked a picture of this barn that I had posted years ago on Facebook. It was from a group of pictures of barns I had taken near Saugerties, NY. There is a barn along the Eastern side of the New York State Thruway near that exit that I liked and eventually painted. I also went inland on the western side barn hunting and this is one was one I took a picture of. I had it on my list to paint but forgot about it.  I changed it to be a fall picture. As usual, I have created a mug on Zazzle

my 2020 art Calendar is out

For some reason I procrastinated on this. It should have been done before Black Friday, but it's done via Zazzle. It has a lot of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, but also New Jersey, Lancaster, Covered Bridges and a cafe in Spain.
Here's the Title page and the link to the 2020 calendar

New painting - Brant Point Lighthouse Sunset

Inspiration for a new painting come from many sources. This one is from the Instagram page of @Hotelpippa - a rather pricey boutique hotel on Nantucket. As I've said before, I stay at the hostel with friends one weekend a year on this Cape Cod island and enjoy the sights, particularly this light house. I've done many paintings of it.
